Badges — the awarded labels that move CTR more than any other pixel.

Best Seller, Amazon's Choice, New Release and Climate Pledge Friendly — what each one means, how it's awarded, and how much CTR uplift to expect.

Green wireframe product tiles each pinned with a different SERP badge — Best Seller, Amazon's Choice, New Release, Climate Pledge — with an orange AMALYZE pill in the foreground.

Look at any competitive Amazon SERP and you'll see them: the orange "#1 Best Seller" ribbon, the dark "Amazon's Choice" tag, the green "New Release" stripe, the small leaf of the "Climate Pledge Friendly" badge. Badges are awarded by Amazon, not purchased, and the CTR uplift they deliver dwarfs almost any other optimisation on the tile.

Best Seller — the #1 in a sub-category

The Best Seller badge goes to the #1 ranked product in a given browse-node (category or sub-category), updated roughly hourly based on recent sales velocity. It is the highest-prestige badge and the hardest to earn — but it is awarded per sub-category, so finer sub-categories give smaller niches more winners.

Practical implication: filing your product into a precise, accurate sub-category is the simplest single step towards a Best Seller badge. A broad, ill-fitting browse-node puts you in a fight you cannot win; a precise one might give you a winnable race.

Amazon's Choice — keyword + ASIN combination

Amazon's Choice is awarded per keyword to an ASIN that Amazon judges to be a good match for that search. The criteria are not officially published, but they cluster around:

  • High relevance to the keyword (the term appears strongly in the listing).
  • Prime-eligible.
  • Strong rating (typically 4.0+ stars) and review count.
  • Available, low return rate, fast shipping.
  • Competitive price for the keyword.

Because it is awarded per keyword, an ASIN can be Amazon's Choice for one search term and not for another — and that combination changes regularly. Defending an Amazon's Choice badge usually means defending the underlying signals: review rating, in-stock, price, conversion rate.

New Release — the launch window

The New Release badge is awarded to the highest- ranking new product in a sub-category within roughly the first 30 days after launch. It is essentially a Best Seller badge with an "if you launched recently" qualifier — and it is the single best reason to plan an Amazon launch carefully.

Lose the launch window and you have to wait for the next New Release opportunity to come around (a meaningful product update, a re-listed parent, a category re-classification). Use the window well and you can get badge-level visibility on day one.

Climate Pledge Friendly

Climate Pledge Friendly is awarded to products that carry one or more of a defined set of sustainability certifications (Cradle to Cradle, GOTS, Fairtrade, Compact by Design, etc.). It is binary: either your product carries a valid certification or it does not.

CTR uplift on Climate Pledge Friendly is smaller than Best Seller or Amazon's Choice, but in some categories (household, beauty, baby) it is now a meaningful filter. If your product genuinely qualifies, registering the certification is one of the highest-leverage one-off tasks on the listing.

What to take into the next episode

Badges sit on top of the tile. The next four episodes walk the tile itself — main image, title, price/Prime, rating. Each one is a CTR lever you control directly, starting with the asset that decides the click in roughly the first 100 milliseconds: the main image.
